Your realism is getting in the way of my Romanticism 03/15/20
What were you trying to think about in your song?
At first, I was thinking about love. Then a bunch of questions about love popped in my head, such as:
- What is love like?
- Do you feel the butterflys?
- Get the confidence to improve yourself for each other?
- Wanting to show them your best, but not afraid to show them your weakness?
- Hope that they are having clear skys?
- Worried about whether if they ate yet, or gone enough sleep?
- Missing every moment you’re not together?
- Wish to show them all of the beauty in the world?
- Make their smile never go away?
- Do you cook together? Wash dishes together? Go through thick and thin?
- Take the time off to explore together or stay home and keep each other company as you read stories? Or do you stay home to chill and watch marathons of Ghibli movies?
- Ready to run to their side when they are venerable? When they need help?
- To love their good and their bad, their little habits or quirks?
- To stick to their side they are in a fight, whether they are right or wrong, but still, remember to stir them to the right path when you guys are alone?
Then when I started to write the song, it didn’t turn out well so I erased it and tried to think about a specific type of love I would like to write about.
What was your process for writing your song?
First I thought about love. Wrote about love, but it did not turn out well. Then, I decided to find a melody first so I searched for royalty-free music. Once I found a melody I liked, I tried to immerse myself in the music and imagine the image of what the melody was painting.
For me, it sounded like a peaceful countryside. So I thought to myself of life in the country. Of an old couple that lived there their whole life, grew up together as kids, and married together when they got older and died together. Afterward, I kept on replaying the melody and added lyrics according to the story in my head. And kept on editing it until I was satisfied with it.
Afterlife
Written by Tina L Vu
Chorus: (Start 0:13) In the darkness and the hardest times, Throughout our prime, into the afterlife I will be with you all the times Even if all (else) goes away (TIME 0:30) When the clouds, come to ruin days Indoors we will stay the same Happily drive the sad(ness) away Smiling all the way In the darkness and the hardest times, Throughout our prime, into the afterlife I will be with you all the times Even if all (else) goes away Verse: (Start 0:57) Oh how beautiful All the children glow As they play throughout the day Where the fields of grass and flowers lay May our days, always stay (the) same Sitting, stay, our (little) home in Damme As memories play, (as) children we use to lay, In those golden fields Every single day Happily
Chorus: (Start 2:02) In the darkness and the hardest times, Throughout our prime, into the afterlife I will be with you all the times Even if all (else) goes away (TIME 2:20) There is nothing to be of fright, Even if we’re lost in the dead of night For the moon and the stars’ light Will be our guide In the darkness and the hard times, Throughout our prime and into the afterlife I will be with you all the times Even if all (else) goes away Verse: (Start 2:46) Oh how peaceful As time ticks and goes Hand in hand, We will cherish every moment Until it all fades to gray (TIME 3:16) As (our) story ends, so will the day may our melody, forever stay Within the fields Golden flowers lay As we depart toward the milky way Good day
Was it easy? Hard? What did you expect? Surprising?
It was a lot harder to write lyrics than I thought. It was easier when I found a melody because it gave me inspiration on what to write about, but if I had to write both the melody and lyrics independently I wouldn’t be able to do it. I either needed the melody to write a song or the lyrics to write a melody. So I really look up to people that could do both.
How successful do you think your song is?
I enjoyed my song so I think it was a success. It’s peaceful and happy. It could be used as a lullaby to sing to my children in the future when I have them.
Do you think you will ever write another song?
Yeah, sure. I found out that PeriTune-Royalty Free Music Material has a lot of other great melodies that could be used to create lyrics.
If you did write another song, what do you think it might be about?
If I wrote another song, I would like to write about a happy festival or celebration using “【無料フリーBGM】軽快で楽しいケルト曲「Harvest5」” by PeriTune-Royalty Free Music Material https://youtu.be/vwYP3opWhpw
