Cameras Tell Stories – 02/22/2020

“Taking pictures is savoring life intensely, every hundredth of a second.”

– Marc Riboud

When you tell a dog that a guest is coming…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Waiting at the door for me to appear, because grandma told him I would visit today.

He will want to wait for the guest at the door for the guest.

When he see’s the guest…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Greeting me when I walked in, because I haven’t visited in a long while.

He will greet them happily, if he recognize them.

After he finish greeting the guest…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Grandma decided to go to the backyard so Lucky followed and grabbed his toy bouncy ball that he left on the lawn.

He will go outside to grab his toy ball.

When he finish grabbing his toy ball…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. After grabbing his toy ball, he waited for grandma, and when he saw that she was done watering the garden, he decided to start heading to the door first.

He will want to go back inside.

But before going back…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Lucky as he continue to wait for grandma to go back into the house, because he never goes anywhere without her.

He will wait for grandma to go inside with him.

When he gets inside the house…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. As he eats a dog treat that my grandma gave him.

He would drop his ball to eat his treat.

When he finish eating his treat…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. As he repeatedly as my grandma for more treats by scratching her knee, because he already finished the other treat.

He would ask grandma for more.

But if grandma gave him to much food…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. As he tries to hide his unfinish food. He does this, because our grandma scolded him when he tried to burry his food in the backyard, so from then on he only “burry” his food under the rug below the (children) dining table.

He would want to burry it under the mat.

When he’s done hiding his food…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. He got thirsty so he went down stairs to the garage to drink some water from his bowl.

He would like some water.

After a hard day of work…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Since my grandma wasn’t going anywhere he decided to rest on the rug next to her.

He would be tired…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. After a while, he decided to take a nap, because it seems like grandma is going to stay here for a while.

And decide to take a nap.

But when it’s time for the guest to leave…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. He saw that I was going to leave, which means that grandma would see me out, so he walked ahead to the door.

He would remember to get up…

Lucky, age unknown, from my grandma’s house on February 21, 2020. Lucky seeing me out with grandma.

And see the guest off.

Why did you choose this story?

While I was brainstorming ideas of what kind of photo stories to make, I decided to making a story from a non-human perspective would be more fun, however after finishing my blog I realized that it would have been better to take the photos from Lucky’s(the dog’s) perspective instead of taking the photos from how I see him. If I took the photos from Lucky’s perspective, the story would become more personal to Lucky. Which was inspired from “Dear, Kitten” by BuzzFeedVideo. So I decided to write the photo story like, “If You Give a Pig a Pancake”(by Laura Numeroff), since I took the pictures from a third pov.

  1. How do you think you did?

I think I did a pretty decent job, but my photography narrative could have been better.

  1. Which image do you think is the individually “best” image in your story?

“Waiting for Grandma,” because Lucky is always following my grandma and would not allow her to leave his sight. Even when she goes out of the house or to the restroom, he would be waiting at the door for her to come back home/out. So the image of Lucky waiting for grandma really represents him.

  1. Does your photostory contain an image that you think is not, by itself, a “great” image, but that is nonetheless important because it helps to tell your story?

I guess the image of Lucky wanting to go back inside the house would not be a great image by itself, but it fits in my story as a transitional photo.

  1. What would you do differently next time?

Next time I would like to try taking the photos from Lucky’s view so we, the audience, and get a more personal grasp of Lucky’s daily life.

  1. Are there other Photo Stories you might like to tell?

I also wanted to do a photo story about trying new food, or exploring new food places. I would go to a bunch of different food places like Irvine, Long Beach, Fountain Valley,  LA, and Tustin. I think it would have also been interesting to make a photo story from the point of view of a fish, just because my house has a lot of fishes so I thought it would have been interesting to make a story from their perspective.
