Abstract is FREEDOM

“Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.” ― Wassily Kandinsky , Concerning the Spiritual in Art

What is Abstraction? Abstraction is vague. It is simplicity, colors, and shapes. These are the primary things that makes up everything. For example, a photo of the ocean may be a representation of H20, while an abstract image of H20 could be a painting with a mixture of different shades of blue in the shape of analog signals or connected triangles.

Do you prefer Representation or Abstraction?

I prefer representation because I like to know what I am seeing. Abstract could be fun for debating with others on what it is, but I still prefer representation and know out right what the art is about. My favorite art are the ones that lie between the two spectrum, such as optical illusion art.

What was the experience like? Was it easier, harder, or different than you expected?

The experience was fun. The feeling of wet paint on your fingers being applied on to rough paper was nice, but then the feeling of your fingers mainly on the rough paper to smear the paint to create gradients felt a bit icky. I mostly enjoyed the feeling of my paint stained fingers on the dried up paint on the paper. I really enjoy feeling smooth textures over rough ones. At first I felt like it was easy and fun to paint on a blank canvas, but it became harder to make it abstract because images of what it could be were forming in my head. And this started to make me frustrated, so afterward I gave up thinking and just let my hand mix the remaining paints that were already out, randomly and apply onto the paper. That’s when it started being fun again and it got a lot easier to paint. Those remaining paint that was taken out and mixed really helped in blurring the image until it was about 60-70% different than the original image. I was surprised with the outcome but really liked it. It was really fun to try painting colors instead of images. When I looked back at the paints I realize there was still red and yellow paint left so I used it to outline the two circles. I felt like the vibrate colors of red and yellow on my dark image really looked pleasing to the eyes and finish my project satisfied (و ˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و

How does this compare to other paintings you have seen?

Maybe because I’m an optimistic person, but even though it may not be professional, I felt like it was well made and am proud of my painting. Even though others may say it looks bad, I love it (•‾⌣‾•)و ̑̑♡
